House Hacking // What is it & How to do it

Updated: Aug 22, 2023

Have you ever heard of house hacking?

It is finding ways to make money or reduce costs with your primary home.

Early on, it meant buying a multifamily property, living in one unit, and renting out the rest.

While this can work, it’s no longer your only option.

Here are a few house hacking ideas:

1️⃣ Rent out rooms in your home as short-term/mid-term rentals

2️⃣ Find some (nice and neat!) rent paying roommates

3️⃣ Build a standalone apartment or cottage to rent out on your property

4️⃣ Rent out a garage or basement for people to store vehicles and other items

5️⃣ House trade for another home somewhere that you have always wanted to vacation. (homeexchange.com)

Be sure to understand the rules and regulations of your home town. Call your city's planning and development department to get direction and guidance.

You can reach out to me anytime with questions or to discuss your next move. I am always happy to talk real estate.
